Our goal is to make a significant difference to both funding and awareness of women’s gynaecological cancers locally, nationally and internationally.
Gynaecological cancer research is currently massively underfunded. Detection rates are lower and mortality rates are higher than for many other forms, so we need to take action by supporting research now. We have very ambitious targets and need to raise money immediately, so we have ‘hit the ground running’. Our creative, lively and dedicated will combine traditional fundraising with some innovative ways of raising funds. so !
Far too many women today are unaware of the gynaecological cancers and their associated symptoms and, to some, the subject remains embarrassing and difficult to discuss. Early detection screening methods still do not exist for some of these cancers and many women with symptoms are ignoring them. Late detection and diagnosis makes these cancers more difficult to treat and harder to beat. We aim to change this radically, by finding practical ways to:
- Remove ALL sense of taboo.
- Raise awareness of WHAT the gynaecological cancers are and, most importantly their
- Inform and empower women (not frighten them) to understand their own bodies.
- Give women confidence to speak to their doctors if they have any concerns.
We want to promote knowledge and awareness, NOT fear.
HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
We believe that charities need to work together to achieve greater results and we will not compete with other charities that raise funds and awareness in this critical area. Instead, we intend to operate as an ‘umbrella’ organisation that will give support to others as well as raising awareness of gynaecological cancers. The GC Fund will create a louder and stronger voice for the whole spectrum of gynaecological cancers.
